Milford Man Pens Crime Novel Based on his Unique Job
New Haven (CT) Register, October 13, 2005 by Pamela McLoughlin
MILFORD--In his 20-year career as the Statue Liberty public affzirs officer, Manny Strumpf mingled with big names such as Dolly Parton, Vanna White, Lee Iacocca, former President Clinton,Al Gore, David Brinkly, Mary Tyler Moore and others, many of whom he gave personal tours.
Until his retirement in 2000, just before 9/11 brought tightened security, Strumpf also was handling less glamorous activities and even crimes at Lady Liberty, including antiwar and antipoverty sit-ins, pickpockdts, rowdy kids, a thrill-seeker hoping to parachute off the statue's head, and folks who hid out there all night.
But there never had been a murder at the statue. At least not until Strumpf made it happen in his first novel, "Murder at the Statue of Lierty," to be released in the spring in softcover by PublishAmerica.
