Not long ago, a group of tourists from Missouri gasped when they got their first glimpse of Lake Michigan.
"Wow!" they exclaimed, "How big is it? You can't even see the other side."
Most folks in West Michigan have long since lost the sense of wonder about the lakes those visitors from the "Show Me" State expressed.
Beyond their obvious recreational value, most locals rarely give the lakes a second thought.
