Pittsburg's Christina Sigmon has recently finished a romantic novel
By NIKKI PATRICK The Morning Sun Posted Aug 04, 2011 @ 07:30 AM

PITTSBURG —

Christina Sigmon’s writing started when she was a little girl.

Now she’s 22, a wife and mother of two and, as of June 6, a published author. Her romantic novel, “An Unexpected Fairy Tale,” was released on that date by Publish America.

“This is a very big accomplishment,” Sigmon said. “I was so excited when I saw it come up on the web site.”

Born in Worcester, Mass., she came to Kansas with her parents and siblings in 1999 and attended Pittsburg High School.

“I studied journalism in high school,” Sigmon said. “The way I started writing, when we were kids and went on summer vacations, Dad would make us write little reports and I took it to the extreme and wrote stories. I’ve been writing since.”

She works at Horton’s Pizza Plus in Arma and lives in Franklin with husband Brandon, who is originally from Colorado, and children Brandon Jr. and Jasmine.

It’s not easy juggling a job, family and writing.

“I usually write at night,” Sigmon said. “It helps that I have a very supportive family. My husband has cheered me on every step of the way. My mom has read every word of this book, she was the first person to read it. She stayed with my children so I could finish it.”

Even Brandon Jr., 5, helped his mother.

“After I’d read a paragraph, he’d have me run it by him for approval,” Sigmon said. “My son even started writing his own book on the computer.”

She said  that the process of producing “An Unexpected Fairy Tale” took about a year.

The story centers around a young woman, Elizabeth Green, who is alone and depressed when she meets the handsome Jason Clark. She dreams of him every night, but during the day resists her attraction to him. Jason refuses to give up on her despite everything she does to try to push him away.

“I sent the manuscript to four or five publishers and they all accepted it,” Sigmon said, “but I chose to go with Publish America.”

The book is available through Publish America, Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.

“I’d like to schedule a book signing when I have the time,” Sigmon said. “Right now things are kind of hectic.”

She’s also started work on her second book, “When Darkness Lurks,” which will launch a vampire series.

“I’d like to finish writing it by December,” Sigmon said.
