Threatening diseases inspire local author

In the 1970s, a super-virus manufactured in Baghdad made its way to the United States.
For a while, scientists were able to contain it. Then, through a freak accident, the virus escaped from the facility and went on a rampage through the countryside. Within eight days, the virus had killed 2 million people.
