About the Author: Ponder was born in Floyd County in 1927. His first regular job was at Berryton Cotton Mill, and he built a small cabin on the company property where he lived for the next seven years. He later moved to Summerville. He trained as a covert operations specialist and served with the Covanich Group, a remnant of the Mihailovich Underground in Yugoslavia. He is a life-long resident of Chattooga County. Ponder has been a tax accountant since 1953. He is married to the former Mary Frances Gilmer and has two children, Claudette Mahan of Moultrie and Jenette Slay of Armuchee. He has five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
