Canadian National Conservatory of Music Choose Composition by Barrhaven Composer
OttawaStart.com, August 10, 2006

Well-known Barrhaven writer, music teacher and historian, Emily-Jane Hills Orford is once again seeing her work being published. The Canadian National Conservatory of Music has included Mrs. Orford’s composition, “Leaving the Station” in their recent volume of piano works, “Making Tracks: Volume 2”.

“Leaving the Station” is a composition inspired by the many train trips Mrs. Orford has taken from the Fallowfield Station in Barrhaven. The music follows the progression as the train slowly leaves the station, sounding the whistle to alert people of the moving train. As it moves further away from the Fallowfield Station, the train picks up speed and the whistle continues to sound at irregular intervals. The sounds of the train and the whistle fade away into the distance.
