February 2003 by Peggy Martin
In addition
to this novel, Mullins has another one waiting in the wings,
which (her proof reader) thinks is even better. She also has
published two devotional-type books entitled "Pathway
to Glory" and "The Heavenly Connection." She
is a writer for "Power for Today," a daily devotional
guide and has two articles in the January-March 2003 edition
of the guide. An essay she wrote shortly after 9/11/01 was
posted on the "Tennessean" website on September
11, 2002 ("It Only Takes a Minute.") Besides writing,
she has belonged to a garden club for many years and has in
the past been a very active quilter (she has many samples
of her handiwork in her home). At various times in the year,
she teaches a Ladies' Bible class in her home, as well as
hosting a small group on Sunday evenings from her congregation,
Woodmont Hills Church of Christ. In her younger days, she
was a Girl Scout leader for several years. Her writing began
after her husband died in 1990 and while she was recovering
from a serious fall that resulted in a broken hip.
Synopsis:
After the death of her husband of ten years, Lilly decides
to leave her home in Charleston, South Carolina, and start
a new life in California. She soon meets Larry, an environmentalist,
and they become partners in "Protect the Earth,"
a project that takes them to a third world country. Back in
the States, their search for a particular artist leads them
to a quaint fishing village in Washington State. As the fishermen
gather at the local diner, they talk of the mysterious water
baby. Later, Lilly accidentally discovers the mystery through
a cousin in Charleston. After Lilly marries Tony, owner of
Saunders Projections, they become benefactors to Billy and
Nathanael, who have lost their parents. When Teresa, a talented
career woman, is diagnosed with a terminal bacterial infection,
she looks to Lilly for support and encouragement. Lilly's
compassion and concern for others bring her happiness and
fulfillment she never thought possible.
