Lila Bess Robinson was born in Memphis on Aug. 4, 1918, a year that saw Russian revolutionaries executing the czar and his family and ended with the apprehensive conclusion of World War I in November.
The world that Bess and Edward Robinson's only child entered that hot summer day seems long ago and far away. But the truth is, less than a lifetime has passed.
