Area author releases new novel
Leader Times, November 10, 2006

South Buffalo Township author Gary Link's new book, "The Spectrum, A Novel," (Publish America Inc., $19.95) has been released. It is Link's second book, and the sequel to his debut novel, "The Burnt District." Both stories take place in 1840s Pittsburgh, and highlight a historic event from the city's past.

"The Spectrum, A Novel" is a historical crime-mystery novel set in Pittsburgh in 1846, during the U.S.-Mexican War. In December 1846, while the war raged in Mexico, Pennsylvania's governor raised the First Pennsylvania Regiment by calling for volunteers from all over the state to report to Pittsburgh. The book takes place during the week that the soldiers stayed in the city, being outfitted for and inducted into the federal army.
