Romance at the ranch

Tucked away on a 23-acre heart-shaped ranchette near the Lilac Cemetery a romance novelist was born. Five years ago Vicki King, an avid romance novel reader, thought to herself, "I can do this," as she read a particularly unsatisfying melodrama. The 1,000-book collection on her shelves gave her all the background and expertise she needed to get started. King may very well have read every romance novel ever written more than once.
"I’ve read so many romance novels that the stories kept repeating themselves," she said from her office in her Texas-themed home.
