New books spotlight state's people and places

Saranac teen Keisha Hoople focuses her considerable writing talent on the Mayfield family of witches in "Damian" (PublishAmerica, $19.95). The Mayfields' 500-year-history has been haunted by the spirit Damian, which has finally manifested itself in the infant Damian. Now, his mother, Selene Mayfield, must join with all the Mayfield witches to send the spirit back and allow her child to live.
