pain into promise: Abuse victim hopes book inspires others
to find way out

One of the first things Angela Hayden was given when she arrived at The Family Place women's shelter in Dallas was a journal. She learned that filling its pages could help ease the pain of a lifetime of domestic violence.
"It was the first time in my life I was safe, I was still and I could hear myself thinking," said Ms. Hayden, who now lives in Richardson with her 14-year-old daughter. "I would stay up all night and write."
