Crosswalks — The X doesn’t mean Christmas is

West End Chronicle, October 24, 2006 by Bram Eisenthal

Several weeks ago, I told you about Dollar Cinema’s Bernie Gurberg and his breast cancer fundraiser. I had to tell you about his daughter Anne’s courageous struggle with anorexia, which she’s been battling for more than half her life. McGill grad Gurberg, a Hampstead native, celebrated her 39th birthday at the fundraiser and the fight against the disease she’s had since age 15 is intimately portrayed in the book My Struggle with Anorexia (Publish America, Baltimore). This softcover isn’t a long read, just 73 pages, but it’s strength is its honesty and simplicity. Gurberg tells you how she became anorexic when, at age 14, five feet four inches tall and 120 pounds, someone at a modelling agency told her she was “too fat” and to come back when she had lost weight.
