Publish America, a national publishing house based in Maryland is proud to announce that it has acquired the rights to publish "Whatever It Cakes" by Joyce Shields Colvin of Ruston. Executive Director Miranda Prather expressed confidence that Colvin's book will quickly resonate with an audience. "Whatever It Cakes is a well written and crafted work of contemporary fiction that fits our specialty like a glove," said Prather. "Publish American primarily publishes works by, for and about people who face a challenge in life and who overcome it by turning stumbling blocks into stepping stones. We believe that Ms. Colvin is a promising talent in this field." Colvin and her family moved to Ruston 25 years ago. Around 10 years ago career moves took them from Ruston; however Colvin and her husband, James, have moved back home to Ruston. "Whatever It Cakes" is a mystery that takes place in North Louisiana," said Colvin. "Local references are throughout the book, including Minden-locations familiar to all of us. In Colvin's book the scene is set in Russville, LA, a fictional city fashioned after Ruston. The time reflects the years when Colvin's daughter was a Tech student who worked at The House of Flowers as a cake decorator. Her daughter now designs cakes on her own. The plot revolves around Jodi and Leah, proprietors of a bakery and highly successful undercover insurance investigators employed by the largest insurance company in Louisiana. The two women find themselves involved in political intrigue and kidnapping that escalates from simple fraud to murder. Colvin herself is retired from the insurance business.
